MOTHER, 2022
Location: Walter WHere?House, Phoenix, AZ
Dimensions: 35FT x 25Ft
Focus: immersive scale, visual impact and social connectivity
The mural is on a large exterior wall of one of Phoenix’s most vital creative hubs, a beacon that towers over the smoking section. The artwork, titled, “Mother,” was designed to anchor an immersive, high-capacity environment. The challenge was to synthesize a sense of radical inclusivity into a large-scale visual format that remains resonant during both intimate community gatherings and high-energy events.
-
The project demanded a deep understanding of how line and color behave when the canvas is the size of a studio apartment (875 square feet).
The bold forms are not lost with distance, ideal for a scattered and ephemeral environment like the smoking section of a live music venue.
-
The 24,000 square foot warehouse can accommodate a huge crowd. The mural is designed to interact with the venue’s shifting lighting and high-occupancy energy. The visual mass of the central egg shape provides a grounding element within the high-frequency space.
-
This mural was born from the process of taking the abstract concept of “human connection” and distilling it into a cohesive artistic deliverable through structured visual narrative while also considering its effect on the atmosphere of a physical space.
